Dream Operative edition by Gary Westfal Literature Fiction eBooks
The book was a good read that I enjoyed with a very "interesting" story line. I would have given it a 5 except I felt a little disappointed with how the author chose to end the book. There were two separate story lines with some common threads that both had major conflicts. I felt the author was building up these two separate events in order to have one resolution that tied how these two different aspects of the book were relevant to eachother. However they each resolve their conflicts individually and the book ends without ever tieing the two storylines together. I tried to find out of there was sequel to this that might have the resolution I feel tht I'm missing but was unsuccessful (I didn't look as hard as I would if this book were a little better), but if anybody reading this review knows of a sequel please mention it as I would like to read another book by this author.Product details

Dream Operative edition by Gary Westfal Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I was actually writing my review for Gary's second book, "Key Horizons" and looked back to read my review of "Dream Operative", not sure why it didn't post the first time. But I'll recap as best I can....
When Gary told me he was writing "Dream Operative", I was thrilled....for him....and for myself. I have secretly always wanted to write a book, too. After reading "Dream Operative", I realize I should set my sights on a new objective...now I'm just envious.
It's been a while since I've enjoyed an author that weaves a story (Tom Clancy and Dale Brown) as Gary does...quick action filled sequences that are all masterfully tied together for an incredible tale. Read the other reviews, then get the book. You won't regret it and you won't be able to put it down.....the good news is.... . the next one Is EVEN BETTER.
Off to write my next review.
For a new author this guy has got some serious skill. He prevents the typical "ups and downs" by intertwining storylines like a master weaver bringing you to the edge and leaving you there as he transitions to a precipice you were left dangling from earlier in the book. The constant action makes it a difficult book to put down.
In a style comparable to Louis L'Amour in his departure for western novels the Last of the Breed, Gary Westfal's character Joey "G" Weston is thrown into a world that he doesn't understand and is forced to run from everything he knows to stay alive. With the aid of several extremely interesting characters Joey navigates a world of clandestine operatives and terrorists of the most extreme and deadliest kind.
Sorry, you will get no "spoiler alerts" from me, read the book. If you like Lee Child, Stephen Hunter, Tom Clancy, and the likes of Dale Brown you are in for a special treat. The book itself was a fast paced read and intellectually stimulating. You will find yourself carrying the book everywhere with you and spending every spare second catching up with the latest predicament the characters have gotten mixed up in. About halfway through you will start trying to savor the book, limiting you reading to only a chapter or a few pages at a time, but you will fail!
To the author, hurry up and get the next one written and published!
Lots of page-turning action! Westfal’s background as an Air Force Special-Ops shines through in a big way. The main plot of college professor “G” vs. the world’s most-feared terrorist, Hakim, keeps you turning the pages. Couple that with the men’s ability to manipulate the world through their dreams, and you turn the pages even faster. Sprinkle in the clandestine world of the NSA and CIA with their dozens of government acronyms (NVG Night Vision Goggles, CAT Crisis Action Team, LIMFACS, SITREP, etc.), and Westfal makes you feel like you’re part of the action and inside circle. Yes, he does decode the acronyms, but a list of them up front would be nice in case you’re reading the book across several days.
The various subplots with good dialogue and strong characters (Ox, Pat, Todd, Athena) are nicely interwoven with the main story. Some of the government actions were a bit implausible (even stupid i.e. not removing activation devices from the blasting caps), and some of the plot details (forgetting the napkin) seemed stretched in order to propel the action, but that’s true of many stories, even Mission Impossible. Needless to say, it didn’t keep me from enjoying the story.
I like a good action novel. Dream Operative has action enough to satisfy. Pitting the world's most wanted terrorist against a college professor of psychology. And one who is interested in the study and interpretation of dreams no less. Now how can you get action out of that? Gary Westfal does so quite nicely along with NSA involvement, development of a wimpy college professor into a man of action who does in fact kill at the end. Along the way, our hero uses his unique talents at distance viewing and travel via the dream dimension to save a good guy, foil the villain, grow in depth and breadth of his character and find his true love. Pretty good for a Psychology Prof.
The action jumps around between many different types of action scenes but the author handles it in such a way that I did not find it distracting. The action scenes are well written and exciting. (Gotta love Ox, Reynaldo and T.J. a great supporting cast).
While the dream scene is not one I would expect for an action novel about spies and terrorists, I found Dream Operative thoroughly enjoyable and hope you will too.
